Harriet Cooper - Spell IV - Part 1

Sometimes it seems like forever between comics.... Oh wait, it’s nearly been forever.

With this first part of Harriet Cooper and the Wizard's Sacrifice Spell 4, we'll be slooooowly wrapping up the first volume of HC. Endings are always bittersweet, but I hope this final chapter gives closure to Harriet Cooper.

That being said, once I'm done with my other major project aka Fallen Star, in...2029 hum hum, perhaps I’ll return for the second volume of HC as it has been scripted...so very long ago.
All I have left to say is, I know it's been a very long wait, but enjoy!

As usual, a huge thank you to Mpgrey for his unwavering dedication to make this project as perfect as possible and for keeping everyone up-to-date on the blog. A big thank you to JNightShade too for his support and ideas all along the project.

  2. The wait is really over!!! Awesome. Thank you sooo much Shinra, I cannot wait to read it. The cover is already very promising.

  4. Do you have any plans with Legion or Yoru no Majin commics?

    1. I think Shinra said that legion would be is next big comic after he finished the fallen star

    2. None at the moment. First I'll finish what I have on my plate, the remainder of HC and the last chapter of Fallen Star, then maybe...maybe I'll revisit some of my older project ^^
but I'll probably be senile by then :D

  7. Just as long as I get the sequence I want in the final fs, you can take as long as you need. :P

(I'm joking. You can of course get it done in your own time regardless)

Thanks for this latest work Shinra!

  11. So its just the corruption of random characters... I was expecting the teacher or Minea but i guess another year it is. I guess the 2nd part would be where the real corruption is at. Still grateful for the chapter.

    1. Exactly. Random characters getting corrupted ... ... I am at a loss of words

    2. I'm not gonna lie, the first part is another miss. That scene must have been tedious to produce, since it invovled so many characters and new designs. Unfortunately, it barely provides anything in regards to the story and satisfaction for the amount of effort required. The designs and corruption were cool and all but its the last chapter and the story has to progress :/

With there being two more trials to go, i'm not sure how the remaining corruptions are going to be encapsulated in 200 pages (since we are already at 45%)

  12. I enjoyed Shinra-kun's take on wizard chess. It was interesting, But, i have to say this part was too short. I think i should of waited until the second part came out. But i have to say the character models look amazing and i don't think their is anyone else who can match the quality of yours Shinra-kun. Keep up the good work, but make sure to get some rest and recharge your batteries.

  13. Very nice work. continuity in pace of the story. nice graphics! thanks! chess time is nice

  14. Great chapter, looking forward to the rest! :)

  15. I cant wait for Minea corruption

    ReplyDelete
  16. I really enjoyed the first part with Minea slowly giving in to darkness. But the rest I don't understand. It took 20 pages simply to set up a chess match (it shouldn't take more than 3 or 4). And the rest was spent in the corruption of secondary characters that banished instantly. I feel it was a waste, even if the corruptions themselves were very good.
Overall it feels like a big disappointment given how long it took and the effort requiered. Unless this characters eventually come back (which I doubt), just doesn't make sense. Anyways, I'm sure as soon as the story re-focus on the main characters, it will be awesome, as it always has been.
By the way, putting the story aside, the quality is remarkable, and better than ever. Looking forward to a superb second part (hope you learn from this mishap). Greetings!

  17. The first part was nice, visually wonderful as expected. It was really unfortunate that the main characters didn't got so much attention. Then again this chapter ist cut in two and the idea was pretty well done with the chess game. The slow mental corruption of Minea was well executed.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks a lit for all your work, Shinra! It was definitely worth the wait.
The image quality is amazing and Minea's scene was crazy hot. Too bad she didn't get corrupted this time (or was she? Maybe she met the master on her way to the basement and is now ready to betray her former friends as a final twist - would make a great flashback scene).

And to be honest, I wouldn't have minded it if Donald had been taken by the knight. ;-)

  20. I feel things could have been a lot better, given the next part will be the final part I feel its going to feel rushed. Having to Fully corrupt Minea, Harriet and re-corrupting the professor all in the span of that issue. If they hadn't been purified the last issue and Minea's corruption was completed this issue I feel I wouldn't get the feeling that it won't be feeling cramped and rushed next time. Also I feel it would have been interesting and better corruption wise if Minea betrayed Harriet when moving her on the chessboard and Harriet was the one who fell to the Vampire Queen and not the bishop

    ReplyDelete
  21. Awesome such a suprise

  22. Super job at the H3N comics team, it's great. The start of Minea's loss of control and transformation is cool. The scene of the chessboard is confusing although a little long but it is necessary to see the continuation to know how it will be located in chapter 4. The appearance of the characters has really changed, as well as the decor. Now, I think the second part of the chapter is going to be even more important in order to end the first volume.

    Attention spoiler part !!!

I have a theory about the end of the chapter. I think that Minea will be just corrupt but not enough to be banished to hell and that it will be of great importance for the intrigue of volume 2. Indeed, I hope that it will be transformed into a person by Professor Stone at the time of the 20-minute ritual and in this interval our heroes will find a way to "kick the ass" of the demons. (I'm for the demon team but its not yet time) Basically Minea will be a double agent waiting for its time to take action in the next volume. To sum up, a great job as usual, now we will see when you have time to publish the suite hoping that it will be relatively fast. Thank you.

  23. Well Part 1 was great cya in 2years for the next part.

  24. Great work as always. Thanks for your efforts

  25. Loved the work! You are great as usual, Shinra :)

  26. I'm never really negative on ur posts but I was a little disappointed with this. after the super long wait, I really feel like part 1 should have had a legit corruption of one of the main characters, probably Minea.

it feels like there will be way too much to handle in Part 2 if we're going to see Minea and then Harriet get corrupted. and the professor too

my hope is that the professor wasn't really saved by the antidote. she's just pretending and the extra antidote she made will actually permanently lock a corruption or something and maybe she'll use it on Minea.

i'm a little worried with the talk of Volume 2 that Part 2 of Spell IV won't end with Harriet being corrupted. it'll be disappointing if Spell IV doesn't end with the bad guys winning and Harriet corrupted.

    1. I never expected Harriet would get corrupted. I expected Minea to become a demon and then be the big baddie in the next series like Obi Wan vs Darth Vader. I would love to be wrong!

They split up as the ceremony starts and Minea gets the second artifact but then is confronted and falls and they confront Donald and Harriet. The demon has so much power he overwhelms her power and Minea takes Donald and the professor.

Don't like that purification pill. Unless it's a trap but shinra just used that trick

      Delete
    2. How do we know that Minea hasn't already been corrupted? Her glowing eyes on page 45 may give an indication of that. If her full turning has been prevented by a spell cast on her, only for that to be broken AFTER Professor Stone/Lord Azimuth has been defeated, then she is effectively hidden and will not be banished with the others.

      Delete
    3. The whole idea is that it takes three sex sessions with a demon to become corrupted, and that Minea is unaware of the fact that her first time was in chapter 2.
It would defeat the purpose of the plot if we pulled a "lol, she secretly already had her third session off-screen".

      Delete
    4. Then taking that theme further, we must assume than NONE of the main characters, including Penny and Professor Changeling, have been turned.

This will lead to some interesting developments in the second part.

      Delete
    5. This comment has been removed by the author.

    6. I was under the impression Minea was on her third but rereading your right she is only on her second but isn't aware of her first, which could contribute to her believing she's safe for now, and perhaps even taking a risk later thinking she isn't on her third strike . Penny for sure hasn't had her third, and the Professor might or might not have depending on what direction next part takes her character since she could have very well had it off screen and is simply faking it right now.

Now for part 2 speculation, we're running off the Sorcerer's stone model for the trails with the chess game. Good odds on the mirror being the final trail, and possibly the one that will out Minea if she hasn't been turned by then. The rest have a few options two of which were monster based (the Cerberus and the troll), you had also had the devil's snare (tentacles, always a classic), flying keys was the other, my money is on the potion trail though since it offers the most chance for transformation hi-jinks.

  27. Hi, I would like to know several things.
Did our heroes let Penny sleep in the corridor at the risk of being corrupted by the first demon who would pass by?
How is it that Seranac is aware of Penny's early corruption?
Has Penny been moved to another location?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Seranac isn't aware of Penny's current state. Donald tried his best to tell him, but Seranac didn't let him finish.

      Delete
    2. Is Penny turned? The last I remembered, she was at her second strike after the opening of the chapter 3. Even if she isn't turned yet, it seems like it would not take much to push her over the edge if a certain demonic defense against the dark arts teacher found her

  29. The next part will be at least 250 pages, this is almost a chapter.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. You can't really count like that because HC uses single pictures as pages. In TFS terms, this first part of HC4 would've only been 80 pages. (In GAIA terms, it would've even been less than 40 pages.)

So if you predict at least 250 pages for the second half of this chapter, then that's basically just 125 TFS pages...which isn't all that oversized, right?

      Delete
  30. Loved it. If you need 2 or more parts to finish it off please do. Id rather not have the story rushed just to fit in a second half.

As i saw the new story today i was happy to see, that you are still doing this. Also i was really surprised about the size of the pictures, 8kx4.5k is something i rarely see for this kind of stuff with so many pages.

So, thank you again for creating this and i hope, you will find the time and motivation to keep on going in the future as well!

  39. Have to say I was a little disappointed we didn't see Minea's corruption, but considering the narrative rules (3 sex sessions, etc) and that this is only the first half of the volume, I understand why it wasn't included. Thought the wizard chess was an amazing take on the idea, and Minea's strat of using their desire for corruption against them to be inspired. I would have preferred to see actual named characters being corrupted instead of (literally) nameless pawns; not because it would have added weight, but because they were really well done scenes and I feel all that effort might have been wasted on characters we're never going to see again. Regardless, thoroughly enjoyable and looking forward to reading the next part sometime after the sun collapses into a nebula. :P

  40. So good. My favorite scene yet, and I suspect we'll see those three chess pieces again

    ReplyDelete
  41. I feel like the chess match took up too much of this chapter and would probably lead to the second part being rushed. This would definitely need another chapter to make sure that doesn't happen. I just can't see how this story would be possible to wrap up in half of a chapter.

Yeah, criticism is fine, but a lot of the "criticism" here is either people bitching about about their entitlement or telling the author to quit instead of anything substantial.

  58. Although this guy was doing this for free, I cannot fathom why he didn't try to monetize this, at all. I'm sure if he made up some half baked reason to get some money out of it he would have had some incentive to finish it.

Instead, he just abandons the hobby. You can tell by his last comic that he lost his love for this. Which is fine, but, say something dude. No one is going to hound you. You're gonna tell me during this pandemic he hasn't had the chance to log on and write a single fuckin word? THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THAT.

COUULD'VE SET UP A PATREON! People get money for doing SHIT WORK and this guy is good at it and just lets it go. Quality work and skill out the window.

"if you're good at something never do it for free..." but also

"The saddest thing in life is wasted talent."

Get back here and do your job. I guarantee if you set up a patreon you'll get enough money to justify putting the time and effort into these comics.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Idk, I do think a Patreon would bring in a decent chunk of change, but it also makes for more responsibilities and having to keep up a regular schedule. At this point, it’s been 8 years since the first Fallen Star came out and that’s a hell of a lot of time to spend putting the level of work that goes into his comics.

A lot of comic artists and prose writers in this genre have disappeared or retired and it seems like it takes a toll beyond just money and time to output content on the regular.

In the end, this is a hobby, not a job. Shinra COULD be more responsive, he COULD set up a patreon, he might be able to finish things at a faster pace, but it’s just a hobby and against everything else in life, it’s going to be secondary.

That being said, even if he throws in the towel now, he’s left one hell of a mark and there are new artists coming on the scene that are clearly influenced by him. With the right circumstances, they could grow to be just as good.

      Delete
    2. Having a Patreon might not just magically make the problem go away, you do also have to factor operation costs, this hobby sure takes a toll on the utilities bill and assets aren't always free. Unless you do make a decent amount (which I am sure Shinra is very capable of but who knows), the added responsibilities on top of his hectic life may not be worth it.

Also not everyone is for profit, Patreon may be a way for some to develop their craft as it helps to subsidise aforementioned costs. If Shinra does not need that, all the more he should not add on.

People were also not mean to Shinra from the get go and it unfortunately started when the response got slower. Generally I think this community isn't that bad (based off the discord channels and pages of other creators in the same genre), but this could also be unique to Shinra as arguably he has the most fans and maybe his are more dedicated.

    1. Besides G9, Verinis Comics has a pretty decent artstyle for a newcomer, quite good in some places. The drawback is that the corruptions are done extremely rushed instead of the lengthy scenes that Shinra gives us.
I respect Cantraps for trying, but i hate his work, the art is all flat and muddy, and there's 0 moral corruption, just "dropped into a vat of acid, now i'm evil"

It's unfortunate that there are so few people with Shinra's talent

      Delete
    2. fully agree with your analysis

      Delete
    3. There's also Vaesark, who has pretty good art, but his obsession with the "10 meter penis all the way" fetish, and relatively few corruption pieces (along with no dialogue) make me avoid him.

Droid447 has the same repetitive obsession but for aliens/monsters taking over girls and creating a hive. Primitive art and lacking in any investment, but has a few good scenes for when you're bored of the rest.

For some decent stand-alones, look for Jeanne Dark - A Lustful Samhain by Mitru; or Succubus Queen by Johngate

      McComix is usually cancer

    4. Recently (like in last couple of days) picked up Daz3D to try my hand at rendering. Probably ways off from a comic of any sort while I learn, and try to navigate the sea of assets to be had, including renderotica's naughty bits. Definite goal is to avoid McComix's low rent cheap look, at same time trying to budget so I'm not wasting money on a bunch of stuff won't use or that won't look how I want (which Daz store is like Steam in that over spending is easy with all the stuff on offer).

  68. What the fuck why would you do that

  69. In case anyone's missed it, there's a new Daz3D corruption creator started up.

  70. Hi Shinra and Mpgrey, it's been a while since we've heard from you Shinra. It would be nice to have, I don't know, an eyelash or a heartbeat just to know that you are still there.
I understand that you are busy with your private and professional life but it would be cool to have a little wink from you every now and then, even if you haven't had time to move forward on the comics.
This is not an authoritarian request as some people have done in the past, it is just a wish.
Do as you wish, hoping that everyone is well, good luck.

  71. Updates have become further apart over the years. To me, that indicates Shinra has either become busy with life, or has lost motivation. It seems there are 2 possible solutions, given these possibilities. Shinra could crowdsource funding for the comics, to provide financial incentive that might make up for the time spent developing them. Shinra has said before that the comics will always be free, but I bet that given the choice between paying and having sparse updates, many of us would rather pay. The other option is that development itself could be shared. I’m sure there are artists who would be willing share the burden of finishing Shinra’s works. Maybe even some of us followers. The stories are already laid out, and Mpgrey has the text covered, so it may just be a matter of helping with the graphics.

    1. No, I only get to see the pages when the majority of them have already been made. It's only then that I can help with the text. So Shinra is not making a story based on my text, and there doesn't exist any writing that any artist could make pictures for.
We'll really need to wait for Shinra to return if we want to see the stories being concluded.

    2. this does raise an interesting point though, looking at Shinra's absence, it's longer than any other period since the start of this blog. In the case he doesnt come back, like in 6 months, i would throw money at someone who could finish these series

at this point i think we should consider the possibility Shinra won't come back, and yes, i'm pretty bummed out about it.
people still come to this blog and still keep hoping, and i'd be happy to be proven wrong though

Shinra, if you're reading this, please give us a drop of news
      (yes i'm desperate)

    3. My dearest fans, I know that most of you will pull their hair at this, puzzled by the lack of comms... I'm still here though...
Like for many people, 2020 has been a tough year and I had to go through a lot, making sure to get my company through the Covid19 roller-coaster, having to face the loss of friends and family while being stuck on the other side of the world and while going through the joys of a divorce...
Please understand that I still need time for things to settle and to resume work on the last chapter of TFS. I know it's been a long time, and by the time I finish it, most of you will probably have forgotten that this series ever existed, but I promised I will finish it and I will...

    1. I really like Harriet Cooper. And it can be motivating for Shinra to finish a smaller series before taking on a bigger project(apparently HC will be finished soon).

  80. Take your time Shinra ! I've been a follower of your work for many years and will not forget it soon. As quality takes time, I will wait your next work as long as it takes.

  81. 2020 has been a rough year for everyone. True. I was hoping to pop on here to see a nicely wrapped Shinra Christmas gift. Glad to know your are okay, Shinra. Hope things are getting better. I'll keep waiting for the final chapter as long as it takes. You have done some really quality work in a rather niche genre and all for free. Nobody could ask for more. I really do want to see the completion to your epic saga that is The Fallen Star. But I understand life often gets in the way of things. Thanks for everything up to this point. Best wishes.
